2009 Edelman Trust Barometer
Mark Shadle, co-president, Central Region, Edelman, will present findings from the 2009 Edelman Trust Barometer, which is the firm’s 10th study of trust and credibility. The report surveys global opinion leaders on trust and credibility in business and explores trust in four institutions: business, government, media, and NGOs. After presenting, Shadle will lead a panel discussion on the results with a group of business and marketing leaders including: Rita Athas, executive director, World Business Chicago, Ellis Booker, editor, BtoB Magazine and Clarke Caywood, Ph.D., sector head, PR and Corporate Communications, Medill Graduate School, Northwestern University.
About Mark Shadle
Mark Shadle is president of Edelman’s central region, which includes the Chicago headquarters as well as its offices in Austin and Dallas.
Mark joined the firm in 1985 as an account executive and today oversees the Chicago co-headquarters and Texas operations. In Chicago, Mark manages an office of over 400 employees in many practice areas. His area of expertise is the corporate affairs practice including reputation management, crisis and issues management, employee engagement, financial communications, public affairs, and technology and business marketing.
During his career with Edelman, Mark has directed programs for a wide range of firms, from multinational corporations to entrepreneurial start-ups. His clients have included Alcoa, Baxter, Boeing, British Airways, Convergys, EDS, Gateway, IRI, Kraft Foods, Manpower, Motorola, NCR, PeopleSoft, Rockwell Collins, Scientific-Atlanta, Scotts Miracle-Gro, USAA and Whirlpool.
His programs have received industry recognition for their creativity and strategy, including awards from the Business Marketing Association, the Publicity Club of Chicago and the Public Relations Society of America. Prior to joining Edelman, Mark worked with Dowling & Associates, a Chicago-based public relations and advertising firm, where he specialized in the travel and real estate industries, serving KLM Airlines and the American Society of Travel Agents.
Mark holds an M.B.A in marketing and management strategy from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He has a B.A. in English and French from Lake Forest College, where he served as president of Alumni Association Board and as a member of the board of trustees.
He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Economic Club of Chicago, the Executives' Club of Chicago, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Publicity Club of Chicago, the Alliance for the Great Lakes and the Business Marketing Association.
Mark was raised in Chicago and currently lives with his family in Naperville.
